Thick & Easy™ – the market leading instant food thickener*

With over 15 years’ experience of providing patients with dysphagia with safe, consistent results, Thick & Easy™ is the UK’s leading instant food thickener.

Foods that have been thickened with Thick & Easy™ accomplish two significant things which help swallowing-impaired patients. First, in being converted to a mashed potato consistency, the food becomes dense and cohesive, which eliminates the problem of thin puréed food running down the throat and into the lungs. Since Thick & Easy™ binds all the liquid in the puréed foods with the food pulp, the risk of unbound liquid running down the throat is virtually eliminated.

Second, Thick & Easy™ adds height and texture to puréed foods, which creates a more visually appealing presentation. Since an important part of the dining experience is that we ‘eat with our eyes’, the psychological status and appetite of a patient can be significantly improved with attractive plate presentations of puréed foods.

Reliable consistency

Matching the national descriptors**, improved mixing quality ensures the right consistency is achieved every time.

Superior mouthfeel

Smoother consistency provides a more palatable, enjoyable experience for patients.

Does not alter the taste of food or drink.

Enhanced stability

Using Thick & Easy™ Using Thick & Easy

corner

Thick & Easy™ – Hot and cold liquids

Drinks are difficult to control in the mouth. However, by adding a food thickener such as Thick & Easy™, it can slow the process down, making the liquid easier to manage, less likely to be aspirated, and safer to swallow.

Using a whisk or fork, mix the following amount of Thick & Easy™ into 100 ml of liquid:

  • Syrup consistency (Stage 1*) = 1 scoop
  • Custard consistency (Stage 2*) = 1.5 scoops
  • Pudding consistency (Stage 3*) =  2 scoops

Leave to stand for 1 minute to achieve maximum consistency.

To aid palatability, you may need to prepare drinks weaker than normal. For milky drinks, whisk briskly for 30 seconds prior to adding Thick & Easy™. Thick & Easy™ can be used to thicken fruit juice, coffee, tea, alcoholic drinks, meat stock or any other liquid.

All drinks can be prepared in advance and refrigerated until required.

Juice-style supplements

Some juice-style supplements still contain milk (whey) protein which can make them difficult to thicken. Alternatively, if you are prescribed a juice supplement which is milk protein free (such as ProvideXtra® drink) these can be thickened as any hot or cold liquid.
